Mexican hot chocolate brownies

I took this recipe and made some alterations. I have to say they turned out pretty awesome. To me, there is nothing better than spicy chocolate.

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (If you don’t like the graininess that comes along with whole wheat flour, just use white.)
  • 3 T all purpose white flour
  • 1 T buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1/2 cup (or one stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (F) and grease an 11x7 in baking pan. Combine the dry ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Then start to melt the butter in a large metal saucepan (something you can use beaters in) over low heat.

When your butter is all melted, add the brown sugar to the saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Remove the pan from heat, and stir in the cocoa powder until everything is smooth and well-blended. Do the same with the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and vanilla. Beat in eggs. Spread into pan and bake 15-20 minutes.
